They finished the first day of play at #11 on the medals tally and they would’ve been eager to improve on this ranking today. At the end of the day, they captured a total of 3 more medals and took their total to 5 for the competition, while also improving their rank, moving to #8 on the medals tally as of 20th August.
The celebrations for Team India began with the shooting events early in the day as two shooters got them medals. Lakshay Sheoran and Deepak Kumar both won silver medals in their respective games, completing a rare achievement for India. The 20-year old Sheoran shot 43 points to secure his medal in the Trap men’s event, in his maiden outing at the Asian Games. He became the third Indian after Karni Singh (1974) and Manavjit Singh Sandhu (2006) to get a silver medal in this event.

Deepak Kumar was the next to add to India’s medal’s count in Palembang. He shot 247.7 to finish second in the 10m Air Rifle Event, only behind China’s Haoran Yang, who won the top prize with a Games record score of 249.1. Ravi Kumar, who won a bronze yesterday, finished 4th in this event.
It’s not very common for India to win individual medals in shooting and that’s what has made these achievements even more special for them. Later in the day, Vinesh Phogat also added to India’s medal’s count, winning the country’s second gold of the tournament. China maintain the top spot with 15 golds and a total of 36 medals thus far.
