George Herbert Walker Bush was a very popular American politician who served as the 41st President of the United States of America between 1989 and 1993. Not just that, he became one of the few American Presidents who also had one of his children serving as the US President, with George W Bush serving as the 43rd President between 2001 and 2009.
For those who don’t know, George HW Bush passed away on 30th November 2018 and this happened after he lived a long and fulfilling life of 94 years, born on 12th June 1924. He lost his wife Barbara Bush in April this year, after a long, long 73 years of marriage, which was the longest marriage for any President and first lady in US history.
Barbara Bush’s namesake Barbara is also her granddaughter’s and the latter said that George HW was the center of their family. “And yet, I think, I also get a lot of joy knowing that he’s with our grandmother now,” added the granddaughter. Today is the funeral service of the 41st President of the United States of America.
Thousands of mourners will come together today at the memorial service, including the likes of former President Barack Obama and current President Donald Trump. This is the first time these two will come face to face since Trump’s inauguration back in 2016, when he was first called the President of USA.
This will also become a rare occasion that all living former Presidents will come together, including the likes of Trump, Obama, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and George W Bush, his son, who will deliver the eulogy later today. All current and former first ladies will also be present, which includes previous presidential runner Hillary Clinton. She will be in close quarters with Trump and that’s bound to make things awkward.
Trump was extra generous when he declared a national day of mourning today, even considering his differences with the Trump family, considering his once-upon-a-time ‘low energy’ comment against Bush’s son Jeb. Former Canada Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and former Republican Senator Alan Simpson (Wyoming) were close friends of the deceased President and they will also be delivering eulogies at the service.
This will become the first presidential state funeral since Gerald Ford’s funeral which was 12 years ago. George HW Bush will be buried at his presidential library at Texas A&M University tomorrow, Thursday. For all updates on this story, keep following ReadScoops.com.
