It’s quite clear now that the coronavirus disease itself isn’t the only thing that’s killing people across the world. It’s also the fear and panic and anxiety that are taking peoples’ lives. Latest news coming in reveals that a German Finance Minister called Thomas Schäfer has recently committed suicide over COVID-19 fears.
As per a recent report, it has been confirmed by the police that the minister has killed himself being deeply worried about the economic crisis because of the coronavirus outbreak. Finance Minister of the German state of Hesse, Schäfer was found dead on a high-speed train line in the town of Hochheim, the line running between German cities Frankfurt and Mainz.
Hesse’s Premier Volker Bouffier had said that the minister has working day and night in recent days to assist German companies and individuals in handling with the current ‘virus crisis’. Bouffier confirmed that the 54-year old Schäfer took the step because he was extremely worried about the ongoing situation.
German police confirmed it as a case of suicide after “extensive crime scene work, the questioning of numerous witnesses, the situation on-site and the technical and forensic evaluations and investigations”. The officials are currently in shock and disbelief about the minster’s death.
Hesse is the home to the German financial capital Frankfurt and among the many banks headquartered here were Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank and European Central Bank, and Schäfer was assisting these lenders in tackling what is one of the worst economic crisis of the century so far.
