It’s been decades sine the fight against racism began. Wait, let me correct myself. It’s been centuries. This planet has advanced in hundreds of ways, technologically, culturally and much more. Yet, such social evils are prevalent in our society, haunting a massive percentage of our population across the world.
Yesterday, the internet went into a frenzy as a video of a man pinned to the ground emerged, with the knee of a police officer to his neck. Needless to say, the man was BLACK. Named George Floyd, the 46-year-old African-American man was pinned after being hand cuffed and the entire incident was filmed by a bystander, which led to it going viral. Floyd died due to this incident.
The bystander shared the video across social media which saw led to the officer being fired along with 3 other officers present at the spot, which an FBI investigation is underway. The family of the deceased man has also asked for there to be a charge of murder on the officer in question, which is 100% just in my opinion.
“They treated him worse than they treat animals. They took a life — they deserve life,” said Philonise Floyd, George’s brother. Born and brought up in Houston, Floyd has been living in St. Louis Park, a Minneapolis suburb since the last 5 years and a video also emerged on social media after his death, of him scoring a touchdown for Jack Yates high School in 1992.

The internet has gone mad in anger especially the black community. Some known sportspersons to take to social media about the incident were LeBron James, Lewis Hamilton and Colin Kaepernick, among others. 24 hours later, a huge crowd of protestors gathered at the spot George was killed yesterday.

I’m a former police officer. I joined the force because I believed the only real way to bring change to policing is from within. I remember being told “empathy will get you killed.” No, lack of empathy allows you to kill. We have to change policing from within. #GeorgeFloyd

Being Black In America Should Not Be A Death Sentence. I’m tired of typing “Rest in Peace”, I wish BLACK men could live in peace.
Rest in Power #GEORGEFLOYD
All 4 police officers have been officially fired, but now we need them arrested & CHARGED.
This must end. pic.twitter.com/6E1ZJm8frU

Hundreds of protestors created havoc at the scene and it has been tough to control them, with one person even being shot at. Police has also resorted to tear gas at the location but they haven’t been able to control the situation. All of this because one police officer decided to bring out hate just because of colour.
