Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently look to addressing the entire nation through a live speech which he has done for the second time in the last one week. The last time he came out to speak to us, he announced a simple ‘Janta Curfew’ which lasted for a few hours on 22nd March 2020. This time however, he’s come with a bigger and much more serious announcement.
In the ongoing fight against coronavirus, India has been on high alert because of our high population and the ease at which this COVID-19 disease can spread through it chain reaction. A few minutes into his speech, Modi announced the big move of announcing a complete lockdown across the country not for one or two days but for 21 days!
In his earlier speech, he had asked us for a few weeks of our lives and now, he has got to the point. The 21-day lockdown is to be taken very seriously and PM Modi didn’t mince his words when he spoke. The lockdown will come into effect at midnight tonight and the only way he can fight against this disease is if we follow this order from the Indian government.
Essentials will continue to be available so there’s no need to go out and do panic buying but yes, it’s better to head out now and stock up a little. Modi continuously emphasized the importance of drawing a boundary at the door of our homes and not stepping out of it. One step out of the homes can let the coronavirus in and that’s not what anyone wants. See how long each slab of one lakh cases took:
- 0-1 lakh cases – 67 days
- 1-2 lakh cases – 11 days
- 2-3 lakh cases – 4 days!!
By converging around shops, you are risking the spread of COVID-19.
