It’s been nearly a month and a half since Indian Prime Minister first came out to address the country and launched a nationwide lockdown. Since then, it’s been extended twice and a majority of us have been staying at home and respecting the order. Of course, we know the coronavirus situation is going out of hand and there are scientific reasons to follow it as well.
While the world is praising Indian because of its decision to begin the lockdown early, we must say that they have been slipping up of late. Was it required to keep the lockdown on but open wine stores across the county? Whether green, orange or red zone, why was it required? Since when was alcohol considered an essential in life?!
Across the country, videos have been emerging of people going mad and scurrying to every wine store they can spot, while quite a few images of bills and receipts of massive purchases have popped up. Really, India? Food, water, clothing and shelter seemed to be our essential requirements in life. Not alcohol.
And the government? What are they up to? It’s obviously a move to increase revenue in the country and by the numbers we’ve seen, there have been historic sales, with numbers that have never been seen before. Does India really require so much of funding to deal with the pandemic? It was only a couple of weeks ago that PM Modi requested the world to pour in funds to the COVID-19 relief fund.
Thousands of crores came pouring in from individuals, companies and everyone else. Have we exhausted those funds? Is the country so much in need of money right now? Or is this just a chance for the government to rake in all the funds they probably can. Anyone noticed the increase in petrol prices across the country today too?
Well, we’re just giving you guys something to think about and honestly, all we’re saying is, “India, say no to alcohol.” Until next time, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com.
