Netflix Extraction 2 Ending Explained

Not the best movie we’ve seen Chris Hemsworth in, in my opinion. Playing the character of Tyler Rake in this movie series, Extraction 1 was an absolute revelation on Netflix but the sequel hasn’t lived up to expectations. They travelled from Dhaka from the first movie to Austria and thereabouts for the second movie, but it’s fair to say the prequel was much better than the sequel.

We’re talking about Extraction 2 which released on Netflix globally on 16th June 2023 and while there’s plenty of action, the plot could’ve been way better. The first part had me at the edge of my seat right through but here, I was waiting for when the end would come. Regardless, we’re not here for an Extraction 2 review but to tell you what the ending of the film signifies…

Extraction 2 ending explained

Unlike the first part, there’s a direct emotional meaning attached to this mission for the hired gun. Rake is out to save his ex-wife’s sister and her children from a prison. Rake kills her husband and his brother is set to chase them all over the world to get his revenge. However, the Thor star is just too good (sometimes taking down helicopters with just a single gun, while not getting shot at either)!

Coming to the ending of this Extraction 2 movie, Rake is really upset because one of his partners in Yaz (played by Adam Bessa) was killed, and Nik (played by Golshifteh Farhani) was gravely injured as well. During the showdown, Rake managed to overpower his opponent Zurab, and finishes off the mission by putting a bullet through his head. However, cops show up and arrest Rake and Nik.

At the start of the movie, it was Idris Elba (without a movie character name) who gave Rake this mission and he very clearly asked him not to get caught, as he wouldn’t be able to help him then. However, Elba gets him out of jail and escorts him to an undisclosed location where he asks Rake to do another job for him. Rake here declines, saying he wouldn’t do it without his team.

And that’s when Elba said he’s expected that, and the camera pans towards another car driving out, where Nik is seen walking out, both her and Rake still in their prison uniforms. We can only imagine that both are now free from prison, and preparing a third job for Elba, which hasn’t been disclosed yet. So surely, an Extraction 3 is on the cards, expected to be in some other part of the world.

The job was successful and Elba mentioned about another job from his ‘Boss’, while not revealing who the boss is, even after Rake asked him. All he gave away was that his boss is a ‘gnarly motherfucker’ which leaves viewers wondering who this person is. We’re sure there’s scope for introduction of a high-profile actor as this boss in Extraction 3, or maybe even create a bit of a universe, much like Marvel.
