33-year old actress Naya Rivera was said to have disappeared after last being seen on a boat ride with her 4-year old child. Best known for her role as Santana Lopez in the musical series Glee which ran between 2009-2015, Rivera’s body was found in a lake a few hours ago, nearly 6 days after she originally went missing.
It’s said that Rivera was out on a boat trip with her son Josey Hollis Dorsey, having rented a boat at 1pm on Wednesday last week. This happened at Lake Puru in the Los Padres National Forest in Ventura County, California, where the two are said to have met with a tragic and fatal boat accident.
Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub confirmed that they used helicopters, divers, drones, and remote-controlled submarines with cameras to conduct the search. Eventually, divers using sonar equipment found Rivera’s body. Ayub confirmed after a full autopsy that there was no foul play involved and the possible cause of death was accidental drowning.

Her son was spotted alone and asleep in the boat, 3 hours after it was originally rented out. The son also later confirmed that his mother last helped him onto the boat and then disappeared under the surface of the water. Assumptions being made is that the boat was unanchored and due to strong currents in the lake, her last efforts were to get the son back onto the boat, while not being able to save herself.
“We believe she was concealed within some of the shrubbery on the floor bed of the lake before eventually floating to the surface due to natural decomposition,” said Ayub regarding why it took 6 days to find the body. More than 100 personnel were involved in the search and the lake was shut to the public since Wednesday.
Her last Instagram post was on the boat itself, kissing her son:
