Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic came about in early 2020 and a lockdown took place across India and the rest of the world, the top OTT platforms were thriving because millions of people were at home trying to find good content online. Almost 2 years later, the trend continues as there’s always fresh and exclusive content coming in on the likes of Disney + Hotstar, Prime Video, Netflix and other platforms in India.
One particular movie that was gaining a lot of attention is Gehraiyaan which was launched exclusively on Amazon Prime Video and the 2-hour and 28-minute Bollywood movie stars Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday, and others. The Gehraiyaan release date was 11th Feb 2022 and since its released on a weekend, social media is already buzzing with this new film.

Before we get to the ending specifically, let’s quickly go through the movie itself and how they decided to touch on the taboo topic of struggling relationships and cheating within them. The drama and romance movie keeps you on your toes right from start to end, with some twists and turns that you wouldn’t have expected, especially towards the end.
Without getting too deep into the film and the plot, let us tell you **SPOILER ALERT** that it’s a Dharma Productions film and you may not always find happy endings in their movies. Directed by Shakun Batra, the movie narrates the life of an ambitious girls (Alisha Khanna) living a fast-paced life in Mumbai and how she struggles with both her relationships as well as her work and career.

This isn’t your usual love story but is in fact a super twisted love story. Shakun Batra has gone on to portray some bold scenes in the movie and the best part about the Gehraiyaan trailer itself is that it doesn’t have the usual cringe factor and unrealistic portrayal of love and romantic songs that you usually expect from Bollywood romantic movies.
The dialogues in the film are also very grounded as what you’d expect in other Indian love stories but overall, there’s plenty lacking in this film too. For example, the fast pace at which we saw the main character’s (Alisha) life and relationships moving, it’s difficult to feel empathy for her and feel the pain she’s feeling that led to her making some of the decisions she makes.
Gehraiyaan – Ending Explained
After the movie takes a twisted and evil turn and there’s a death that occurs, there isn’t much explained on how the two lead actresses recover from the trauma and emotional despair. All we know is that Alisha decides to hide the truth of her affair with Zain from her cousin Tia, and she decides to move away from the mainland, only to reunite with Tia and her ex-boyfriend Karan, at Karan’s engagement with someone else.
Now just before she moved away, Tia explained to Alisha the truth of the latter’s parents. Alisha always hated her father and blamed him for her mother committing suicide, but she now gets to know the truth of her mother having an affair with Tia’s father. She turns out to technically be Tia’s half-sister and not just cousin, and Tia’s father left Alisha the Alibaug beach house too, but it was mortgaged by Zain before he died.
The main question though is does Tia know about Zain and Alisha? And their affair. Alisha doesn’t tell anyone to avoid being a suspect in his death, and to avoid Zain’s company from going bankrupt. As per what we’ve been show, Tia stays clueless but the biggest cliffhanger is at the end when the woman who Zain/Alisha helped on the yacht arrives at the engagement, and the rest is left up to our imagination. It’s safe to say that either, Alisha avoided conversation or the woman spills the beans which will cause drama, and thus a Gehraiyaan sequel!
