Iconic Singer Bappi Lahiri Passes Away

One of the most iconic singers of the 1970s and 1980s, this man is said to have popularised the use of synthesized disco music in Bollywood, making him super popular over the decades. Not only was he loved for his music production but also for his style and his signature fashion statement of having gold chains and other gold ornaments always on him.

We’re talking about singer Bappi Lahiri who has to be one of the most loved singers in the country but we’re here with bad news today as we’ve read reports of him passing away in Mumbai at the age of 69 years. You can say that it’s a poor start to the month of Feb 2022 as we’ve lost two of India’s music legends this month, with Lata Mangeshkar passing away less than a couple of weeks ago. And now, Lahiri has passed away in Navi Mumbai’s Criti Care Hospital after battling with health issues over the last month or so.

“Lahiri had been admitted to the hospital for a month and was discharged on Monday. But his health deteriorated on Tuesday and his family called for a doctor to visit their home. He was brought to the hospital. He had multiple health issues. He died due to OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) shortly before midnight,” said Dr Deepak Namjoshi, hospital director.

Immediately, the news broke out this morning and tributes from the industry have been pouring in on social media, as everyone knows that we’ve lost another gem. He was affectionately referred to as the melody king and even the disco king and even till this age of his life, he was rocking it with music and TV appearances, ads and more.

In April 2021, he was admitted to hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 but he recovered well from it and was even last seen on television with Salman Khan on reality show Bigg Boss 15, where he was promoting his grandson Swastik’s mew song, ‘Baccha Party’. He’s survived by his wife and two children Bappa Lahiri and Rema Lahiri.

We hope that his soul may rest in peace and we send out thoughts and prayers to Bappi Da’s family in this time of grief. For similar updates on the entertainment industry from around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
