It’s a sad day for the Indian economy as former Tata Sons Chairman Cyrus Mistry has been declared dead after failing to survive a fatal car crash. The 54-year old was killed in an accident in Palghar while returning from Ahmedabad to Mumbai on Sunday, 4th September 2022. While there aren’t many details as of now, the accident is said to have taken place at around 3:15pm today.
“The accident took place around 3.15 pm, when Mistry was travelling to Mumbai from Ahmedabad. The accident took place on a bridge over the Surya river. It seems an accident,” confirmed a police official. Two others travelling with him in the car were injured while Mistry was the only casualty, with the body being transferred to Gujarat’s Kasa Rural Hospital for post-mortem.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first to react to Mistry’s untimely death, calling it a big loss to the world of commerce and industry. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was also among the first to send a tribute to Mistry and his family.

Mistry is survived by his wife and two children after this tragic accident. RPG Enterprises Chairman Harsh Goenka was also among the first few to condole Mistry and his family, calling him a friend, a gentleman, and a man of substance. Cyrus Pallonji Mistry first rose to fame in 2012 when he was chosen to succeed Ratan Tata as Chairman of Tata Sons, only to be removed by vote in October 2016.

The crash in Palghar district attracted a lot of attention from passersby, who were taking videos and photos of the car and the location. “Indian industry has lost one of its shining stars whose contributions to India’s economic progress will always be remembered.” said Piyush Goyal about the sudden demise of Cyrus Mistry.

And considering Tata Sons affects a number of industries across the country, it wasn’t just the businessmen who were sending out tweets regarding his death. Sportsmen, actors, and common men like you and me were also among those sending out tributes. Former Maharashtra CM tweeted saying he ‘Spoke to DGP and instructed him for detailed investigations’.
