Often known as the ‘Human Computer’, it’s surprising that such few people known about India’s mathematical genius Shakuntala Devi. Thus, it’s good that Abundatia Entertainment and Sony Pictures decided to make her biopic and it’s even better that they decided to choose leading actress Vidya Balan to play the lead role.
Vidya usually blends into every role that she is given and she steals the show in this film that runs for 2 hours and 10 minutes on screen. Today, 31st July 2020 is the official launch date of the film on Amazon Prime Video and lakhs of people across the country have already watched the film and sent in their ratings.
Currently, the film has got a 7.0 rating on IMDb which is quite decent and having watched the film ourselves, we’d recommend it to you too. Directed by Anu Menon and detailed with the help of Devi’s real-life daughter Anupama Banerji, the film has added its own creative aspects which may not be entirely true with the real story of Shakuntala Devi, but that’s true with almost every other biopic made in Bollywood.
Sanya Malhotra plays the role of the daughter in the film and though she and Vidya Balan are only 13 years apart in real life, Vidya perfectly plays the role of being Sanya’s mother, nailing the role of the math genius who has plenty of records and is even in the Guinness Book of Records for her talents.

Deprived of a normal childhood because of her father, the story is about how she manages to become a big person in life all on her way, without even having a formal education. She’s able to solve complex cube roots in seconds, something that people have difficulty in solving even with calculators in hand!
It’s a bit of a woman empowerment film as well as she aspires to be a ‘badi aurat and not a bada aadmi’ and how she doesn’t need male help anywhere in her life. She moves to England and entertains us all with her brown accent among all the whites. And then, there’s a bit of a twist when she finds a partner and has a daughter (Sanya).

The film also has Amit Sadh playing a big role, fresh off the success of his show Breathe: Into the Shadows and since the launch of that show, he has risen in popularity, so people will be very happy to see him back on television so soon.
