On Monday evening at 5:20 pm, Bollywood star (almost legend) breathed his last breathe in Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital in Mumbai. The actor Shashi Kapoor has been on dialysis for failing kidneys since a while, and he passed away today, aged 79 years old.
In his prime, Shashi Kapoor was one of Bollywood’s leading actors and his death will mark the end of an era. Son of Prithviraj Kapoor and brother of late Raj Kapoor, Shashi was one of the main reasons that the Kapoor family has been so famous in Bollywood over the years.
It was Randhir Kapoor, Mr Kapoor’s nephew, who confirmed the news of his uncle’s death, and he has also confirmed that the funeral ceremony will take place tomorrow, 5th December 2017. Bollywood stars and even the Prime Minister & President took to Twitter to express their grief after knowing of the actor’s death.
However, this wouldn’t have come as a shock to the family as the veteran had been suffering with illness over the years. Shashi Kapoor will always be known for his role in entertaining millions of Indians throughout the 70s and 80s. Most will remember his first leading role in Bollywood, in the 1961 award winning film Dharmputra.
Shashi was married to English actress Jennifer Kendal in 1958, and remained married to her until her death in 1984. He leaves behind three children – Kunal, Karan & Sanjana.
Shashi Kapoor's versatility could be seen in his movies as well as in theatre, which he promoted with great passion. His brilliant acting will be remembered for generations to come. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers.
