UPDATE (26th Feb): A forensic report has suggested that Sridevi accidentally drowned in her hotel room in Dubai, falling in the bathtub, losing consciousness and drowning. The autopsy’s cause of death has been mentioned as ‘accidental drowning’ and not a cardiac arrest. There were traces of alcohol in her blood.
This Saturday night wouldn’t have been a fun one for the Indian film industry, as they will mourn the death of one of their finest actresses – Sridevi Kapoor, who made her Bollywood debut in 1978 and was the nation’s heartthrob through the 1980’s.
Sridevi was in Dubai with her husband and daughter for a family wedding, when she passed away due to a cardiac arrest. The legendary actress was just 54-years old and this event has come as a huge shock to the entire country. She recently starred in the movie MOM (2017), appearing in the lead role of a Hindi film for the first time since English Vinglish (2012), and she absolutely nailed the character in the film.
While most of the guests had headed back to India after the wedding, Sridevi, husband Boney and younger daughter Khushi stayed back in Dubai, while elder daughter Janhvi wasn’t with the family due to her shooting schedule. Here are some of the tweets of grief by the industry:
Shocked beyond words to hear about the sad and untimely demise of #Sridevi. A dream for many, had the good fortune of sharing screen space with her long ago and witnessed her continued grace over the years. Thoughts and prayers with the family. RIP ??
