Arguably one of India’s best actors over the last couple of decades, Aamir Khan has gained a lot of respect from his peers and colleagues over the years. He picks and chooses roles only that he believes in and does justify to all of them too (well, almost all). However, he’s in the news today not for his profession or acting skills or upcoming movie, but for a very personal reason.
The lives of actors and Bollywood stars can never remain private because of their popularity and today, we’re here to announce that Aamir and his wife of 15 years, Kiran Rao, have announced their divorce. They’ve given out a statement about the same while promising to remain devoted parents to their son, Azad.
The duo recently celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary and their statement mentioned that they had been planning a separation since a long time now. However, they will remain co-parents to Azad and will continue to work together for Paani Foundation. It was only in December 2020 that the two and their son Azad and Aamir’s daughter Ira were seen celebrating the 15th anniversary in Gir National Park.

“In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect and love. Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives – no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other. We began a planned separation some time ago, and now feel comfortable to formalise this arrangement, of living separately yet sharing our lives the way an extended family does. We remain devoted parents to our son Azad, who we will nurture and raise together. We will also continue to work as collaborators on films, Paani Foundation, and other projects that we feel passionate about. A big thank you to our families and friends for their constant support and understanding about this evolution in our relationship, and without whom we would not have been so secure in taking this leap.
