WATCH: Kohli Bids Emotional Farewell as RCB Captain

We’re not sure about what it is that is driving Virat Kohli to make such big decisions but he’s made a couple of huuuuuge decisions in the last few days. It was only a couple of days back that we spoke to you about Kohli stepping down as Indian T20 captain post the ICC T20 World Cup that will happen in the UAE, and now he’s gone on to make another decision about his captaincy, that has left thousands of fans in tears.

WATCH: Kohli Bids Emotional Farewell as RCB Captain

Virat is the only cricketer in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to have played all fourteen seasons for a single franchise and that’s none other than the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). This is the ninth season where he’s captaining the side and unfortunately, for whatever reasons, he’s been unable to to lift the silverware. He just managed to make one final for RCB, back in IPL 2016.

It’s probably all that pressure that got to him of not winning any titles, and also the fact that it’s been two years since he’s got to a century in any format of the game. In IPL 2021 so far, he’s got 198 runs in 7 games and his personal numbers can be so much better, so he’s gone on to make the decision of stepping down as RCB captain as well, post the IPL 2021 season.

The RCB Twitter account posted a video of him saying an emotional goodbye as RCB captain, which left thousands of fans teary eyed, while King Kohli himself looked like he was fighting some tears. He mentioned having may conversations with management about how to go ahead with this transition and he claims ‘managing his workload’ and allowing an easy transition since IPL 2022 will be a full, fresh auction.

One could imagine there’s a rift between Kohli and management but Kohli was very clear in his statement that he will play for RCB until his last game in the Indian T20 League, so we don’t see him moving out anytime soon. However, we’d love for Kohli to sign off in style by claiming that elusive IPL title, giving something for his critics to talk about as he steps down as RCB captain.
