At the start of this ICC 2019 World Cup, we predicted that Afghanistan would pull a few surprises and shock wins in the tournament, but they have had a lot of issues when it comes to ‘team politics’ as we’ve seen fit players being called unfit and in-form players being dropped. What is happening, we don’t know but Afghanistan is languishing at the bottom of the CWC 2019 points table with 5 losses in their 5 games so far.
Now, they are up against Team India, who is one of the favourites of the 2019 World Cup and I don’t see how Afghanistan have any chances here. However, we’re here to talk about fantasy cricket and win/loss rarely ever matters here. India has 3 wins in 4 games so far and one game was washed out due to rain. India
For India, the biggest concern for the CWC 2019 is Shikhar Dhawan being ruled out with a thumb injury and Rishab Pant coming in for him. However, India should stick with the same playing 11. Dinesh Karthik is a better finisher than Vijay Shankar, but the latter is that extra bowling option that this Indian 4-bowler attack requires. Pick Shankar as he is a mature player and will want to repay the faith India will show in him. Playing Afghanistan will help his confidence.
The next player with all-round skills is Hardik Pandya and he’s my x-factor player for India through this tournament. With the bat, Rohit Sharma has 2 centuries and Dhawan also got one before injury so it’s time for captain Virat Kohli to step up. With the ball, Yuzvendra Chahal is our main weapon and India will use him well so make sure you have him in your team. India may play Mohammed Shami to rest Bhuvneshwar after the latter picked up a niggle in the last game.
Afghanistan
How does Afghanistan come out of this rot? Firstly, pick the heroes of Afghanistan cricket, Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi, both of whom played IPL 2019. If you’re falling short of all-rounder spots, select Gulbadin Naib ahead of Nabi as the latter hasn’t been able to have a great impact apart from that 3-wicket over against Sri Lanka in CWC 2019. Naib is a floater and we saw him opening the innings, while he tends to bowl out a few overs as well.
Pick Dhoni as your wicket-keeper as Ikram Ali Khil bats too low down in the order. With the bat, Rahmat Shah is easily the most talented batsman in the Afghani side and apart from a few high scores coming into this tournament, Shah scored 43 against Australia and 46 against England. Prior to the tournament, he also scored 98 in Afghanistan’s second game in their Test history. Make sure you have him in your FantasyJi (Use “READ100” to get Rs.100 FREE) fantasy team.
