It’s been nearly a month since the Amber Heard vs Johnny Depp trial began and today on Day 22 of the defamation case, we’re seeing some further developments, mostly in favour of the 58-year old actor, Depp. Today, he brought on a witness called Morgan Tremaine who is a journalist by profession and also a former employee at entertainment website, TMZ.
Now for all those who know about TMZ, it’s a tabloid journalism online newspaper owned by Fox Corporation that has been around since nearly two decades, and is a clear leader in entertainment news in the USA. Today Tremaine was called into the witness stand to talk about a video he received in 2016 while he was working at TMZ, one which shows Depp banging cabinets in his home.
Morgan Tremaine lashes out at Amber Heard’s lawyer
During his interrogation in the witness box, the former TMZ journalist was asked a number of questions. This included questions on how he received a video of Depp in August 2016, while he also spoke about sending cameramen to capture Herd walking out of a courtroom, with the intention of catching the apparent bruise on her face.
But coming to the main point of this article, Tremaine was under severe pressure coming as a witness as he gave out TMZ information which puts his career in jeopardy, calling TMZ a very ‘litigious organisation’. Even so, he came out and testified and even had a swing at Amber Heard’s lawyer, who told Tremaine that he’s here to get 15 minutes of fame as the case is being televised. The exact conversation:
“You know this case is being televised, right?” asked the lawyer to Tremaine. He replied saying, “I’m aware that there are cameras.” She further questioned him, “So this gets you your 15 minutes of fame, right?” At this point of time, Tremaine mentioned that he has nothing to gain from this and that he’s actually putting himself out there, considering TMZ is super litigious.

But the lawyer went on to trouble him and Tremaine had the most fitting reply in the moment. “I’d say the same thing if you took Amber Heard on as a client for you,” he told Heard’s lawyer as she was shocked with the reply. So were the others in the courtroom, and there was even a small round of laughter that followed this answer. The lawyer had nothing much to say, apart from calling Tremaine argumentative.
He replied saying that he hardly finds it argumentative but purely logical. He was an important witness in the case today as he came out here despite TMZ fighting for him not to be forced to give out company information. He later posted to social media that it’s been a tough few days for him and even urged his followers to focus on more important matters in the world like gun violence, and not celebrity news!

More importantly, Tremaine testified that it was indeed Amber Heard who sent the video of Depp banging cabinets to TMZ herself. They have a verification process which was skipped and posted within just 15 minutes as the video came directly from the owner itself!
