All You Must Know About The New Rs.10 Currency Note

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has introduced a new 10 Rupee note with a new chocolate brown colour. The new note will have the same height as the current ten rupee note but the width is lessened by 14 mm. The new 10 rupees notes are currently already under circulation. RBI has also announced that the existing 10 rupee notes will continue to be legal tender.

Here are some of the points worth noting about the newly introduced INR 10 Currency Note

  • Dimension of the new Rs. 10 Currency note is 123 mm (length) by 63 mm (breadth).
  • The new Rs. 10 notes have a see-through register (A print element on banknotes used to protect against counterfeiting) on the front sides with denominational numeral 10.
  • Denominational numeral 10 is printed on the front of the note in the Devanagari script.
  • The front side of the currency note bears a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at the centre. ‘RBI’, ‘Bharat’ (in Devnagari), ‘India’ and ’10’ are printed in micro letters on the front side of this new note.


  • The front side bear a windowed demetalised security thread with inscriptions ‘Bharat’ (in hindi) and ‘RBI’.
  • Guarantee Clause, RBI Governor’s signature with Promise Clause and the RBI emblem are printed towards the right of Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait.
  • The Ashoka Pillar emblem is placed on the right bottom of the front side. Also the electrotype (10) watermarks are present beside Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait.
  • The front side have a number panel with numerals growing from small to big on the top left side and bottom right side of the Rs. 10 note.
  • The year of printing of the notes is inscribed on the rear sides of the note, completely towards the left.
  • The back sides also portray a Swachh Bharat logo with the slogan (‘Ek Kadam Swachhata Ki Ore’ in Hindi)!
  • The rear side of the new Rs. 10 note have a language panel, motif of the Sun Temple and the Konark. The existing ten rupee note carries the image of fauna of India – Rhinoceros, Elephant and Tiger.
  • The denominational numeral 10 written in Devanagari script (at the top right) of the rear side of the note.
